2화 : 지옥 
게임을 계속할 것인가, 여기서 중단할 것인가.
참가자들 사이에 의견이 분분한 가운데 투표가 진행된다.
하지만 바깥세상에서 이들이 처한 현실은 게임만큼이나 가혹했으니.

 

 

✅ 충격의 여파 – 공포와 멘탈 붕괴 Aftermath of the Massacre – Terror and Mental Collapse

 

첫 번째 게임 ‘무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다’에서 수십 명이 사망하자, 참가자들은 공포에 질려 아비규환에 빠진다.
살기 위해 고함을 지르고, 주저앉아 울며 진행요원에게 목숨만은 살려달라고 애원한다. 이들은 더 이상 게임이 아니라 ‘학살’이라고 외친다.

 

Following the first game, “Red Light, Green Light,” where dozens of players are killed, the remaining participants fall into utter chaos and fear.
They scream for their lives, collapse in tears, and beg the guards for mercy. What was supposed to be a “game” is now denounced by players as a massacre.

 

✅ 게임 중단 투표 – 상우의 제안 Vote to End the Game – Sang-woo's Suggestion
상우는 동의서에 명시된 ‘다수의 동의가 있을 경우 게임 중단 가능’ 조항을 상기시키며 투표를 제안한다.
참가자들은 한 명씩 차례로 투표에 참여하고, 게임에 남겠다는 사람과 떠나겠다는 사람이 정확히 100:100으로 나뉜다.
남은 마지막 한 사람, 001번 할아버지 오일남이 키를 쥐고 있고, 그는 'X 버튼(중단)'을 눌러 게임은 일시적으로 종료된다.

 

Sang-woo reminds the group of a clause in the contract that states the game can be halted if a majority agrees.
One by one, players cast their votes. In the end, it’s a perfect tie—100 votes to continue, 100 to stop.
The final vote belongs to Player 001, Oh Il-nam, the elderly man. He presses the X button (to stop), and the game is temporarily suspended.

 

✅ 현실로의 귀환 – 지옥은 여기에 Return to Reality – Hell Is Here

 

참가자들은 각자의 삶으로 돌아간다. 그러나 게임보다 현실이 더 비참하고 고통스럽다는 사실을 다시 마주하게 된다.
기훈은 치매가 있는 어머니의 병원비조차 감당하지 못하고, 딸은 미국으로 떠날 위기에 놓인다.
- 상우는 서울대 출신 엘리트였지만 횡령과 투자 실패로 체포 위기에 놓여 있으며 어머니의 기대를 저버리지 않으려 한다.
- '새벽(강새벽)'은 탈북자 신분으로 가족을 찾기 위해 돈이 필요하고,
- 덕수는 조직폭력배에게 쫓기며 생명의 위협을 느낀다.
- 알리는 임금을 떼먹은 공장 사장을 폭행하고 도망친다.
이들은 각자의 방식으로 현실의 "지옥"을 체감하고, 다시 게임에 돌아가기로 결심한다.

 

All players are returned to their lives, only to realize that reality is even more painful than the game.
Gi-hun can’t afford his mother’s hospital bills and risks losing contact with his daughter, who may soon leave for the U.S.
- Sang-oo, once a Seoul National University graduate, is now wanted for embezzlement and investment fraud, hiding from police while trying not to disappoint his mother.
- Sae-byeok (Kang Sae-byeok), a North Korean defector, is desperate to reunite her family and needs money.
- Deok-su, a gangster, is being hunted by rival criminals and fears for his life.
- Ali, a foreign worker, assaults his employer who withheld his wages and goes on the run.
Each participant experiences their own version of hell, and many decide to return to the deadly game in search of a way out.

✅ 형을 찾는 형사 – 준호의 등장 The Detective’s Pursuit – The Arrival of Jun-ho
경찰 황준호는 실종된 형을 찾기 위해 기훈을 찾아온다. 기훈은 처음에는 이를 무시하지만, 이후 다시 게임에 참가하기 위해 명함의 번호로 전화를 건다.
준호는 이를 몰래 뒤쫓아 게임 조직에 잠입하기 위한 실마리를 얻게 된다.

 

Police officer Hwang Jun-ho appears, searching for his missing brother. He approaches Gi-hun, who initially brushes him off.
Later, when Gi-hun calls the number on the business card to re-enter the game, Jun-ho secretly follows, setting in motion a covert investigation.

 

✅ 재참여 – 지옥을 벗어나기 위한 선택 Rejoining the Game – A Choice to Escape Hell
참가자들은 다시 한 번 검은 승합차에 탑승하고, 같은 방식으로 마취되어 ‘그 장소’로 향한다.
각자에게는 돈보다 절박한 사연이 있고, 현실에서 벗어나기 위해 다시 생존 게임의 세계로 돌아가게 된다.

 

Once again, the players board the black vans and are sedated, returning to the hidden game facility.
Each of them has their own desperate reason—something more pressing than money—driving them back into the world of survival games.

💭 2화 감상 및 느낀 점 / Episode 2: Thoughts and Reflections

2화는 잔인한 게임이 끝났음에도 불구하고, 참가자들이 스스로 다시 게임에 돌아가기로 선택한다는 점에서 매우 역설적이다.
이는 단지 죽음의 공포를 무릅쓸 만큼, 현실이 더 지옥 같다는 메시지를 던진다.
이번 에피소드는 주요 인물들의 사연과 동기를 깊이 있게 조명한다. 단순한 생존 경쟁자가 아니라, 각자 고통을 안고 살아가는 인물들임을 보여준다.
덕분에 시청자는 이들을 더 깊이 이해하고 몰입할 수 있다.
불공정한 노동, 신분 제약, 가족 해체, 사법적 무능 등 한국 사회의 다양한 문제들이 에피소드 곳곳에 담겨 있다.
특히 탈북자, 외국인 노동자, 자영업자, 채무자 등 다양한 인물이 등장하며 사회적 약자의 현실을 적나라하게 보여준다.
준호라는 인물이 처음 등장하면서, 시청자는 게임 외부의 시선에서도 이야기를 보게 된다.
이후 전개될 잠입 추적 서브 플롯의 서막이 열리며, 긴장감은 또 다른 방향으로 확장된다.

Despite the horror of the first game, the fact that the players voluntarily return in Episode 2 is deeply ironic.
It emphasizes the brutal reality that real life is more unbearable than the fear of death.
This episode gives depth to the characters, exploring their backstories and motivations. They are no longer just participants but people with pain and complexity, allowing the audience to empathize with them on a deeper level.
The show also delivers a sharp critique of society—touching on unfair labor conditions, systemic inequality, broken families, and legal failure.
It portrays marginalized individuals such as defectors, migrant workers, debt-ridden citizens, and the self-employed in raw, unfiltered ways.
The appearance of Jun-ho, the police officer, adds a new perspective to the narrative— from outside the game, setting up a subplot of infiltration and pursuit that adds a fresh layer of tension to the series.
